1st Announcement & Call for Papers

 

The China Business Translation Association (CBTA) was incorporated in Hong Kong in May, 2016, as an endeavor to better meet the demand of the development of business translation as a discipline in colleges and universities within mainland China and across the Strait, as well as to provide broader academic exchange opportunities for teachers and researchers in business translation teaching and research and personnel engaged in business translation. Therefore, CBTA and the Organizing Committee of the International Symposium on Business Translation and Teaching Research have decided to hold the Fourth International Symposium on Business Translation and Teaching Research in Dalian City, on May 25th - 26th, 2017.

Registration fee: The registration fee is 900 yuan for official participants and 600 yuan for graduate student participants, which covers the materials, meals and conference expenses. Accomodation will be charged separately. Transportation is paid for by the participants themselves. Registration and accomodation fees need to be wired to the CBTA secretariat no later than April 15th, 2017 (Bank account: 110914925510501, Bank: 招商银行北京京广桥支行, Account name: 北京东师瑞普教育科技有限公司) .
Please indicate the purpose and the amount of the money in the postscript. The money can also be transferred via WeChat, or Alipay, or bank card (service charge free) before the deadline. The corporate credit card holders also need to pay the above mentioned fees in advance (before the deadline), and they will get refunded when they check in.
Membership: Anyone who wants to become a member of China Business Translation Association can visit the CBTA website, look up the China Business Translation Association Charter, and download and fill in the CBTA membership application form. Applicants need to send their forms and wire their membership fees to the CBTA secretariat. If the Symposium participants apply to be come a CBTA member, their membership fees of the first year will be exempt.
 
Authors are invited to submit their papers on business translation theories and practice. Papers selected and included in the conference proceedings will enter the Thomson Reuters CPCI-SSH database and the CNKI database. Detailed information is as follows:
Publication and Indexing:
    1. Papers submitted by participants of the Symposium (including post-graduate participants) and members of CBTA will be included in Business Translation and Teaching Research, an anthology published by New Vision Press (U.S.). No publishing fees would be charged.
    2. Authors can request their papers to be reviewed and published by New Vision Press (U.S.) and become CPCI-SSH papers. In this case, the title and abstract must be written in both Chinese and English. The body can be in English, Russian, Korean, Japanese or Spanish. The paper should be in 14-point Times New Roman and not exceeding 6 pages (A4). Reviewing fees and publishing fees are necessary for this service. Please note that, after pulication, it would take three to four months before the papers become CPCI-SSH retrievable. A notification of paper selection will be sent to the authors within seven days after their papers are received. According to incomplete statistcs, papers are regarded as a little less if not as important as CSSCI papers, or as important research achievements by more than 300 colleges and universities in China, if they are included in CPCI-SSH international academic conference proceedings.
Deadline:
Papers need to be submitted no later than April 20th, 2017. Please state whether you want your paper to be included in the CPCI-SSH proceedings or not. (Just a gentle remiander, the number of papers that can be included in the CPCI-SSH prodeedings is limited, so early bird gets the worm!)
Paper review:
1. Preliminary review: Papers will be reviewed by a panel consisting of well-known scholars from home and abroad. In principle, paper selection would take into account factors of discipline, region and the portion of participants from the author’s college or university.
2. Final review: Authors whose papers have been selected through the preliminary review will have the opportunity to present their abstracts in breakout sessions and will receive their presentation certificates. After that, their papers will be reviewed by a panel consisting of experts from the Symposium’s Academic Committee so as to standardize the layout of their papers.
3. Modification: Papers to enter the CPCI-SSH database will be modified by experts invited by the Symposium in an expert-author interacting manner. The modification period will be one month.
Fees:
1. The publishing fee will be 500 yuan each for papers in the 2017 Anthology of Business Translation Research, which is published by New Vision Press (U.S.). However, this fee will be waived if the author (only one author for one paper) is a participant of the Symposium or a member of CBTA.
2. The publishing fee will be 4,900 yuan each for papers (not exceeding 6 pages as mentioned above) in the Proceedings of the Fourth International Symposium on Business Translation and Teaching Research, which is retrievable in the CPCI-SSH and the CNKI database. For detailed regulation about the paper format and layout, please refer to the paper sample on the CBTA website (www.cbta.hk). In cases where the paper cannot end within 6 pages, the publishing fee for the exceeding part will be 600 yuan for each page. If the paper is selected, the author or the first author, if the paper has more than one authors, will not be charged of any registration fees for the Fourth International Symposium on Business Translation and Teaching Research. Once the paper enters the CPCI-SSH database, the author can retrieve it from libraries of the 985/211 universities, such as Peking University. After paying a certain amount of fees, he or she can even get a science and technology citation certificate. Authors also can get the certificate from the CBTA secretariat at a minimal expense of 100 yuan. Reviewing and editing of the paper starts AFTER the publishing fee is received. For papers that have been reviewed but fail to get published, 80% of the publishing fee will be refunded.
